Top Tips for Moving Fragile Office Equipment
Are you getting ready to move offices? It can feel overwhelming to prepare to move an entire workplace, particularly when you have lots of fragile equipment. Things like computer monitors, printers, scanners, hard drives, networking equipment, and telecommunications gear can be difficult to move and costly to replace.
50 years in the moving business has taught us a lot about office moves, and we’ve seen it all. Here are our top tips for moving fragile office equipment:
Prepare Well in Advance of Moving Day
Thorough preparation will make your move go smoothly, and that’s especially important when it comes to an office move! We recommend taking inventory of all of your equipment to ensure that everything is accounted for and you’re prepared for the size of the move.
We also recommend taking photos of cord connections before disassembling your items to make it easier to set everything back up in your new space. Labeling all cords and components is a necessity when reassembling!
Finally, if you’re moving your own items, it’s wise to invest in insurance that covers damaged equipment. If you’re hiring professional movers like us, we’ll make sure your items are insured. We offer several protection plans which are underwritten by a nationwide insurer of movers.
Use Proper Packing Materials
When it comes to moving office equipment like computer monitors, TVs, and other fragile items, it’s crucial to use the right packing materials. The best option is the original packaging, but if the boxes and foam are long gone, don’t worry! Bubble wrap, foam padding, and packing peanuts are some of our favorite protective items for screens. You can buy specific boxes and packing kits for screens, but these can be pricey. We’ve found that taking the time to carefully wrap your monitors with foam and place them in secure, sturdy boxes lined with packing peanuts does the trick.
Add Extra Labels to Boxes and Pack Strategically
Another way to make sure that your fragile items stay safe during an office move is to make sure to add “fragile” labels to your boxes. If you have time, adding the label to all sides of a box will ensure that the message gets received and that anyone moving the item will handle it carefully.
When it’s time to load the truck, we like to make sure that fragile boxes aren’t piled on top of one another. It’s best to create a base of solid items like furniture and then place the more fragile boxes on top in a single layer. This will ensure that delicate items like screens aren’t sitting under excess pressure or weight.
