Moving Tips for Pet Owners

Create a Safe Space

Designate a safe, quiet space in a separate room where your pet can relax while we're packing up or unpacking your belongings! We love to meet and greet our customers' pets, but we also want to make sure they stay safe and that the moving process is as stress-free as possible. We'll keep the door closed to ensure your pet doesn't accidentally get out!

Make sure they have plenty of water and food and a comfortable nap spot. Check on your pet often and give them some extra, moving day treats!

Pack Your Pet Supplies Separately

Be sure to separate your pet supplies and label the box well. You can request to have this box packed last or keep it in your car to ensure it's handy when you arrive at your new home.

Plan Ahead for Long Distance Moves

A long-distance move can be a stressful experience for both pets and their owners, but there are some things you can do to make a move a little easier for everyone involved. Here are a few tips from pet experts:

  • "If your pet is prone to car sickness, make sure you visit your veterinarian a few weeks prior to your move to get any prescribed medications and feeding recommendations." (Source: American Humane)

  • "Prepare your pets by gradually acclimating them to their crates. First, place their food inside an open crate, and eventually have them eat their meals in the crate with the door shut." (Source: ASPCA)

  • "On the day of your move, your pets should be wearing collars, including up-to-date rabies tags, and an ID tag with your new address and your phone number." (Source: Purina)

Staying overnight? The American Kennel Club has a great list of pet-friendly hotels on its website!

Don't worry…Before you know it, your sweet pet will be settled in their brand new home!
