7 Tips to Make Your Summer Move a Breeze
Summer is one of the most popular times to move! The kids are out of school, the weather is warmer, and many homes hit the market in the spring/early summer. Here are some of our top tips to make your summer move a breeze:
Book Your Move Early! The summer can be very busy for moving companies and truck rental companies. Schedule movers or secure your vehicle rental as soon as you know your move dates!
Stock the refrigerator with cold drinks! Staying hydrated is key when you’re moving on a hot day. Ice-cold drinks and snacks will keep everyone happy.
If it’s very hot outside, plan ahead and make sure the AC is running in your new space! Moving is a workout and it’s more difficult if you are working in extreme temperatures. Keep your moving team safe and cool by turning the air conditioning to a reasonable level and trying to keep doors closed in between trips to the van.
Speaking 0f weather, avoid moving during the hottest part of the day. As soon as that midday heat hits, moving gets more difficult and unpleasant. Try to get your move going as early as you can, then take a break midday to unpack or eat lunch. You’ll be refreshed as you head back outside to finish moving in the evening when the weather is a little cooler.
Be aware of items that don’t handle heat well, and make sure not to leave them in a hot car or moving truck for extended periods of time in the heat of the idea. Make sure these items travel in your personal vehicle or get packed last so they’re not overheating in a truck:
Food
Electronics
Candles
Toiletries and makeup
CDs and records
Musical instruments
Keepsakes like photo albums
Plan ahead for kids and pets. With all the doors opening and people carrying heavy furniture around, it can be difficult to keep young children and/or pets cool, safe, and out of the way. Arrange care ahead of time!
Last but certainly not least - take care of yourself! Drink lots of water, wear athletic clothing you can comfortably break a sweat in, and wear sunscreen! This is an easy one to forget, but all those trips from the house to the truck and back really add up, and you might end up with some uncomfortable sunburn if you don’t prepare!
